Well, I woke up this morning with a corker of a headache :(

To be honest after doing my TO DO list, even with lots missing from that list it looks very daunting. There is so much i want to do and as normal i want to get it done yesterday.

Well as you can see I decided to use Word press on this website. Ive written an article about Word press as I’m very impressed with it. I will be doing articles covering basic sites and other ways to get online as I make a portfolio of different websites but for now I’m only going over the facts about Word press as I learn to create this website.

It was so easy to install. I found the hosting that supports Wordpress and realised they have a one click installation. (Wordpress recommend a few companies for hosting HERE) I chose one of those that are recommended which i found to be the cheapest at that time:

It was great for me, just what i wanted. So after getting my hosting, and the domain name sorted out. I went into the CPANEL of the website (all details are emailed to you from the hosting company and even the CPANEL has a wizard to help you get started.) and found the Wordpress install logo. My install actually failed the first time as I had a copy of index.php which was from the hosting guys, so all I had to do was go to file manager in the Cpanel and delete the index.php and then the install file did everything for me. Easiest install Ive ever done to be honest.

Now I’m having to understand all the parts in admin in Wordpress and how to do what.

Ill post more as I explore around the admin area.

Breakfast now :)

Tonight I had to stop myself getting wrapped up in this website. My ideas are flowing so much and I’m getting so excited about what I want this website to be in the end reality had dissapeared for a little while. My fella came home from his full time job , my daughter who is off school due to summer holidays moaned dinner wasn’t ready and baby in my tummy decided to sit rather low and my back started throbbing probably because I’ve been sat down doing this work.

It made me realise, this dream, if its to be more than a whim I have to make it fit round every day life. Baby is due in 11 weeks, My daughter needs me, and the house still needs to be kept tidy.

I sat my fella down and voiced my concerns. How can I put so much effect into this website working full time and still manage to be a full time mum and keep a house. He smiled at me. He said he loves seeing me so excited about my dreams and if this is the time its truely going to work, us sticking together and supporting each other will make this whim become reality.

So with alot of determination, keeping my working day separate and ending at a decent time so I can still read my daughters night time story and still deal with a screaming baby and learn Web design , then this could really work.

My fella even made me laugh and asked how many hits the site had had already with his cheeky grin. I told him its been live about 4 hours and knew he was teasing but as he gave me a hug I knew this time really could be different, I really can get to where i want to be.

A tired Pixie

So you guys know I have picked my domain name and now its time to pick my Web Hosting. To be honest I had no idea how much Web Hosting had changed until I started researching again today. When I did websites about 4 years ago, it could work out so expensive and if you picked the wrong one, you were doomed. Today I chose the main factors i wanted. E.g Simple Word press installation as I’m new to the program and i wanted to blog easily until I get into this all again, wanted unlimited space so i don’t have to worry about bandwidth etc but now I find that alot of companies are offering unlimited amount of domains hosted under one account! I was amazed. I found one for about £6.99 per month which i thought was a fantastic price, then carried on looking and found one for £2.99 per month with everything that i needed.
I was very happy. £2.99 to host any amount of domains I decide to throw at it. Well I very was pleased. Of course I’ll keep this post updated on how I find the service, up time etc but at the moment I’m very pleased.
Oh also heres the article on Web Hosting that ive created.

Take care, going to rest the brain now for a while :)

Well, the buzz is still there thankfully. I rang mum today tried to explain what I’m doing. But shes heard so many of my dreams/whims I knew it either was going over her head due to me not explaining my plans very well or she was silently preying I stick to this idea. I’m going to get my daughters breakfast now, hoping i can think of a domain name and also hoping I can try and understand how word press works so i can get online with my blank canvass.

OK now to think of a domain name. For those that don’t know (and don’t be offended but my thoughts on this site are going to be written in layman terms) The reason for this is when I first started learning about web design and getting an online presence after I gave birth to my daughter I had no idea what any of these things were. So I want to write this for all those people out there who are new, and who have no starting point. Maybe even if I can inspire one person then, this is worth it. Even if I cant get anyone reading this, at least maybe the therapeutic way of writing things down will spur me on to stick to this for a change. As i go further on in my journey of course any articles I write or blogs I write will get more complicated but if I type as I learn , I’m hoping it will help others. At every stage any point of reference I use will be recorded so you can also easily follow my path.

OK now to pick my domain name:
Here is where my first article starts. As i travel through my journey: I’m going to write simple guides, as i learn and as i do things.
Picking a Domain Name

3.30pm

Finally I’ve managed to decide on a domain name :) Yes as you can see its www.webdesignwhim.com I believe its quite appropriate for my theme and what I’m like. My domain name article explains domain name registration also. Its not complicated to get your domain name registered once you pick what you want.

So i don’t loose track of what I’ve been through so far Ive been typing what I’m doing in a notepad until my sites hosted so you can see the stages it took me to get online. I’m preying all works out at the moment. But wow it’s daunting. I really hope I can stick to this and get to where i want to end up.

Speak later all x

Next Step will be my hosting x

10.46pm
Spent about 30 mins lying in bed, ideas spinning through my mind. Cant seem to sleep so have decided to come back downstairs and doodle. I see from http://www.webdesignerwall.com/ that he draws free hand as a starting point, so I’ve started to doodle on paper to try and get the creative juices flowing. Its not up to much and i have no idea yet how to convert my drawings from paper to pc or how to even get them into a website but this is the start..
I can now go to bed knowing tommorrow I can make a start.
