Lilly green free wordpress template

Lilly green free wordpress template

Well, An update on my journey. As you will see I managed to get rid of the basic Wordpress template. I was quite impressed with how simple the Wordpress software makes it to change templates. I started yesterday with doing a google search for FREE WORDPRESS TEMPLATE and found some really nice templates.
The first website I viewed was http://wordpresstemplates.name . I was shocked to see such good quality templates for free.
I decided on this template first to play about with:

I really liked this template and once downloaded I followed the easy process of installing it into my Wordpress.
SEE HOW TO INSTALL A WORDPRESS TEMPLATE HERE
Once installed it did look nice but for some reason when I viewed the template on my fellas computer from a different browser it did go all messy and not keep the text in the picture boxes etc. So even though this looks nice be careful to always check it on different browsers. I’m not quite sure if it was because of the widgets or plug ins in my wordpress that were causing issues as I was new to all that as well but either way its still a nice template, worth playing about with.
Next I just looked through google and looked through the different websites offering free wordpress templates.
Some more good sites I found were:
There is alot to think about when picking a template. How you want your navigation, is it widget ready and AdSense ready..So much to think about and that’s before I even try and contemplate designing my own wordpress template rather than using a free one.
I did find a very nice basic layout on wordpress.org. That’s the template that’s here at the moment. I was very impressed that they made it easy to change the header image and the background so at least it can be made to look different from other free templates with my own graphics. All i did was download the template, go into the Images folder within the template files, and there i could view and header what was obious the background image and the header image with photoshop. Very easy indeed.
I do worry this particular template is rather to garish. So I think I will be changing it again but that’s the greatness I’m finding with Wordpress, they make it so simple to install new themes it doesn’t matter if I change things often while picking whats right for me and this website.
Well enough for now, Dam school holidays make it impossible to work and deal with a 6 year old :)

OK I was a fool to think I could step back into Web Design and it all come flooding back. My kind fella got me installed with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator so I can work on my laptop as sitting at a desktop 30 weeks pregnant isn’t very comfy at all he he. But after updating it and reading through some great tutorials on how to create a wordpress template and after advice from the ever trusty Sitepoint users I’ve decided just to get away from this dam basic blue wordpress template I’m going to have to find and learn how to install a free template until my skills are up to scratch. At least that way I can learn how to edit the .css files etc and add plug-ins etc.

Ive also decided to start designing some basic html pages in .PSD again also so I can get ideas flowing and designs built for upcoming designs and pages before I code them.

I really have to realise i cant just step into this and expect a professional website up in a few days, this is going to take alot of work. Ill post some things here once Ive done being creative :)

See you later all

Well, I have just been back to an old haunt. The Sitepoint forums. I used to hang around there alot before Igot out of the loop. I made a new account as i couldn’t remember my old one :( and have started reading there posts and even set up a link to this website in my signature. I’m not expecting lots to visit this website but if Ican get a few that can maybe give me good advice and help me on my way I’m going to appreciate that very much.

To be honest I really don’t know what to do next with this site. There’s so much I want to do, but I’m unsure whats more important. At the moment this theme looks horrible, but I promised myself I would not get a generic Theme or post someone Else’s work but for me to create a theme I’m a long way off that me thinks :) so im going to leave it this basic colour and hopefully people will understand why.

I always jump into things and I’m hoping by taking my time and pacing myself on this site, people will be patient but see its an important part of my journey to stop it being a whim :)

So..Well its Saturday so i cant do loads today as i promised my little girl to take her to the park, but hopefully later on, I can start posting some more content and maybe even get some scans of my artwork uploaded.

Take care all see you later x
